Centrally located family owned and operated wooden heritage Bungalow Hotel in Shimla, opposite the historic Railway Board Building on Mall Road near the Railway Station. It has recently undergone an internal renovation for all its 23 rooms and some of the common areas whilst keeping the external facade untouched which is over 169 years old. It has the best panoramic views overlooking the Annandale Valley, Tara Hall School and on a clear day in the morning you can see the distant Himalayan range. We are an eco conscious hotel and have added solar heating to provide 24 hours hot water.


There are excellent walks from the property to the Ridge, Glen, Annandale, Summer Hill, Viceregal Lodge etc. It is only 150-200 meters from the Railway Station, old Bus Stand, Town Center, Ridge, Shopping Areas, Banks & the Kali Bari Temple with all places within leisurely 5-15 minutes walk. The new ISBT is around 6 km from the main town.







Dalzell Estate was constructed around 1844 or thereabouts by Captain E. Sunderland. As per record, a certain Estate commonly called the Dalzell Estate situated at Simla Hills in the East Indies consisting of two houses known respectively as Dalzell House and Dalzell Cottage with the gardens and buildings and appurtenances thereto was on or about the 20th of December 1850 purchased from Captain E. Sunderland by Elizabeth Ann Cooper of “The Lines”, West End Lane, Kilburn, Middlesex in England. The Deed was registered in the Simla Registry Office on 21st December 1850. In 1972, Elizabeth Hotz Durrant, who had transferred the property to Hotz Hotels, sold it to the present owners who have owned it for the past 47 years.


Shimla lies in the south-western ranges of the Himalayas with an average altitude of 2397.59 meters (7866.10 ft) above mean sea level. The climate in Shimla is predominantly cool during winters, and moderately warm during summer.  The average temperature during summer is between 19 C (66 F) and 28 C (82 F), and between −1 C (30 F) and 10 C (50 F) in winter. Monthly precipitation varies between 15 millimetres (0.59 inches) in November to 434 millimetres (17.1 inches) in August. Snowfall in the region, historically has taken place in the months of December, January and early February. Of late, it has also snowed in November and March months in some years.


In 1819, Lieutenant Ross, the Assistant Political Agent in the Hill States, set up a wood cottage in Shimla. Three years later, his successor and the Scottish civil servant Charles Pratt Kennedy built the first pucca house in the area, near what is now the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly building. The settlement grew rapidly after this, from 30 houses in 1830 to 1,141 houses in 1881. This property was amongst the initial buildings constructed in Shimla and still remains so 171 years later with the internal structural timbers and external faade untouched. There are other pre-independence structures which still dot Shimla; buildings such as the former Viceregal Lodge, Auckland House, Christ Church, Gorton Castle, Shimla Town Hall and The Gaiety.







The Hotel has 23 rooms most of which can accommodate extra bed. All below rooms (Executive Rooms,Family Rooms & Deluxe Rooms) are tastefully furnished with picture windows or Terrace with either a Valley View or Mall Road View. Amenities includes Cable TV, Telephones, Wooden Flooring, Sofas/Chairs, Curtains and attached bathrooms renovated with modern sanitary fittings, shower cubicles and 24 hours running hot & cold water. The hotel provides well-maintained rooms that are designed with homely appeal for a comfortable stay.

Executive Rooms & are located on the Mall Road level.

And Family Rooms, are located on the ground floor down 10 stairs from Mall Road.

Deluxe Rooms are located 25 stairs down from Mall Road level.

Parking: As the Hotel is located in a sealed area on Mall Road, no cars or taxis are allowed to come to the hotel without a special permit. Kindly note that the Hotel does not offer any Parking. Guests must park their cars in the Railway Parking next to Victory Tunnel on the Cart Road below the hotel or at other paid public parking. All Base Rates are exclusive of Luxury Tax @ 10%; Service Tax @ 9%. Final Chargeable amount includes this 19% of the total tax amount to be paid.

NOTE: All Rooms have been extensively renovated with modern attached bathrooms with showers, 24 hours hot/cold water and, comfortable beds. In addition, in all Executive category rooms there are 8” spring mattresses, tea makers,and 32” LCD TV . Moreover Executive rooms also have large picture windows and wooden tiled floors. All Deluxe Rooms down thirty stairs have large picture windows with Valley View.

BOOKING: We accept bookings by e-mail/ phone. However, for bookings to be confirmed, we must receive an advance of at least 50% of the room charges for the duration of stay and 50% at the time of check in.


  • If the cancellation is made before 10 days , 100% amount will be Refunded.
  • If the cancellation is made before 7 days , 50% amount will be refunded.
  • If the cancellation is made after 7 days, NO REFUND will be in any circumstances.
